Problem Description:

The problem was identified back in 2008 and still seems to exist in the latest version:

Return any database query with leading or trailing whitespace. Use query-of-queries to either limit or change the order of the return fields and these values will have the whitespace removed.

Doesn't matter.

I'm curious as to whether this issue will be fixed or if an additional CFQuery parameter can be added in case that this result is desired. I connect to a couple of 3rd party databases that use CHAR fields and this data loss bug makes truncation easy, but I didn't know whether or not it would still exist now that a newer version of ColdFusion is about to become available.

I've just confirmed that this bug still exists in ColdFusion 10,282462 (Developer 64bit).

This was reported over 2 years ago during the Beta and flagged as "Closed/Fixed." It was recently reported again here: Is this actually fixed in the product "ColdFusion 10" or is the fix to purchase a brand new version of "ColdFusion 11"? (If so, that's not really a fix.)

Adobe, This issue still exists in CF10 Update 14 (10,0,14,291717). Jamo filed this ticket on May 2, 2012, when CF11 didn't even exist. He waited over 2 years for a fix and was told "This was fixed in CF 11."? (b/c CF-3797144 was marked as a duplicate of this one) CF10 is still a supported version, so this ticket should be re-opened and fixed for CF10. Thanks!, -Aaron

This fix has significant change of behaviour. This could break applications which rely on the implicit trimming as pointed out by Jamo in the first note. So releasing this fix in an update is risky.
